Our society is so enamored of Superheroes, and great Big gestures that are easily recognizable and indisputably heroic, that the little everyday, wonderful things people do for others go unnoticed.

Holding out for a Hero
I had gotten the novella Holding out for a Hero free on my e-reader a few months ago and I finally read it the other day. I found the story intriguing though the writing could have been better. With the various Avenger's movies coming out the last few years ,which I have enjoyed, we have gotten our fill of superheroes. But what Stacey reminds us of is that these heroes are pure fiction. This is a theme in the movie, Oz, the wizard is a conman who is obsessed with power, adoration, fame, and money. His quest for these things leads to destruction and hatred for those around him. It is in learning that a great man, is only a good man who chooses to do the right thing, that the story finds it resolution.
In the book, Ordinary Mary's Extraordinary Deed by Emily Pearson the child is introduced to a young "ordinary" girl who picks berries and leaves them for her neighbor. This simple deed cascades into other acts of kindnesses which spread all around touching many lives. It is a great book to read to your children and a great lesson for all of us.
Have a great Sunday,
